Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 10

10. Make magic with water:

Water energizes most wildlife subjects, projects reflections, saturates color, and adds glistening patterns of motion to the composition.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 9

9. Focus on the landscape:

Capture wildlife as the star accent in a dramatic setting. Start with a compelling landscape composition, then bide your tiem until the subjects move into ideal position.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 8

8. Pick decisive moments:

By studying animal behavior, you can anticipate exciting action. Have the camera framed, focused, and ready to shoot for the climax of the scene, not just routine behavior.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 7

7. Blur the action:

Capture blended color and fluid designs by slowing shutter speed to blur subject motion. Pan the camera with moving animals.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 6

6. Find novel angles:

Capture animal groups from the air, an elevated tripod, or hillside to reveal abstract patterns. Snap big animals while lying on your belly to accentuate size and proportion.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 5

5. Mind the light:

Avoid shooting in midday sunlight! Choose illumination that accentuates the most telling aspects of the subject (e.g., back light for translucent egret plumes, sidelight of a rumpled alligator back, and overcast light for the rich color of a cardinal). The subject should look toward the light source, not necessarily at the camera.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 4

4. Color the background:

Maneuver for a camera position that places the animal against a less brilliant, but still colorful, out-of-focus background. A low camera that includes a patch of blue sky often works well.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 3

3. Make eye contact:

The most emotive images result when the camera is placed at the subject's head level, an angle that provides the most revealing view into the animals' eyes but also throws immediate background elements out of focus, etablishing the center of intrest.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 2

2. Practice Patience:

Wait to capture the animal interacting with its environment(eating a berry, catching salmon, climbing a tree) or with other animals(courtship, combat, predation). Be prepared to wait; be ready to shoot.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 1

1. Fill the Frame:
Every situation is different, but simple compositions usually make a stronger impact than complex ones. Use a zoom lens or teleconverter to tighten up on the subject - specifically, close enough o show revealing detail in the eyes.
