Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 10

10. Make magic with water:

Water energizes most wildlife subjects, projects reflections, saturates color, and adds glistening patterns of motion to the composition.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 9

9. Focus on the landscape:

Capture wildlife as the star accent in a dramatic setting. Start with a compelling landscape composition, then bide your tiem until the subjects move into ideal position.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 8

8. Pick decisive moments:

By studying animal behavior, you can anticipate exciting action. Have the camera framed, focused, and ready to shoot for the climax of the scene, not just routine behavior.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 7

7. Blur the action:

Capture blended color and fluid designs by slowing shutter speed to blur subject motion. Pan the camera with moving animals.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 6

6. Find novel angles:

Capture animal groups from the air, an elevated tripod, or hillside to reveal abstract patterns. Snap big animals while lying on your belly to accentuate size and proportion.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 5

5. Mind the light:

Avoid shooting in midday sunlight! Choose illumination that accentuates the most telling aspects of the subject (e.g., back light for translucent egret plumes, sidelight of a rumpled alligator back, and overcast light for the rich color of a cardinal). The subject should look toward the light source, not necessarily at the camera.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 4

4. Color the background:

Maneuver for a camera position that places the animal against a less brilliant, but still colorful, out-of-focus background. A low camera that includes a patch of blue sky often works well.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 3

3. Make eye contact:

The most emotive images result when the camera is placed at the subject's head level, an angle that provides the most revealing view into the animals' eyes but also throws immediate background elements out of focus, etablishing the center of intrest.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 2

2. Practice Patience:

Wait to capture the animal interacting with its environment(eating a berry, catching salmon, climbing a tree) or with other animals(courtship, combat, predation). Be prepared to wait; be ready to shoot.

Tips for Classic and Offbeat WildLife shot PART 1

1. Fill the Frame:
Every situation is different, but simple compositions usually make a stronger impact than complex ones. Use a zoom lens or teleconverter to tighten up on the subject - specifically, close enough o show revealing detail in the eyes.

Technorati Profile

Canon EOS 40D

The EOS 40D becomes the sixth Canon 'prosumer' digital SLR, a line which started back in 2000 with the EOS D30, and how far we've come. It's been eighteen months since the EOS 30D and although on the surface the 40D looks like a fairly subtle upgrade there's a lot that makes this an even better camera. Of course we expect a step up in megapixels, and so the 40D comes with a ten million pixel CMOS sensor with the same sort of dust reduction as the EOS 400D, an ultrasonic platform which shakes the low pass filter.

Other improvements bring the EOS 40D closer into line with the EOS-1D series, these include a move to the same page-by-page menu system, both RAW and sRAW (2.5 MP), 14-bit A/D converter and 14-bit RAW, cross-type AF points for F5.6 or faster lenses, a larger and brighter viewfinder, interchangeable focusing screens, a larger LCD monitor (3.0") and faster continuous shooting (6.5 fps).

The main changes and improvement with the 40D according to Canon are:-
1. 10.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor, compared to the 8.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor in the 20D/30D.
2. 3 or 6.5fps continuous shooting, compared to 3 or 5 fps in 30D and 5fps in 20D. Canon also
claimed 30% greater focusing speed with the 40D.
3. 75 jpeg or 17 RAW burst, compared to 30 jpeg or 11 RAW with 30D and 23 jpeg or 6 RAW
with 20D.
4. New AF sensors, 9 sensors, all cross-type, compared to 9 AF sensors only center sensor is
cross-type in 20D/30D

5. Digic III image processor, Digic II in 20D /30D
6. 3″ LCD 230,000 pixels, 2.5″ 230,000 pixels LCD in 30D and 1.8″ 118,000 pixels in 20D
7. Live View mode.
8. Automatic sensor cleaning.
9. Increased size in viewfinder view.
10. Interchangeable focusing screen.
